about
An old saying goes something like this - “there are THREE things in life that are certain:
1. Death
2. Taxes
3. The greatest works of musical art can only be obtained by purchasing a mattress from a Sears outlet in the 1970s.”
This age-old phrase aligns oddly well with the history of Mort Garson’s “Plantasia,” one of the very first albums recorded entirely on a Moog synthesizer. Upon release, you could get your hands on this ear candy only if you bought a Simmons mattress from Sears, or if you happened to buy a houseplant from one store in Los Angeles called Mother Earth.
Yet, like a flower that grew from concrete, Garson’s synthesizer masterwork flourished with the odds of worldwide success thoroughly stacked against it. Decades after its limited release, a massive rediscovery and appreciation took place among music lovers. The album garnered millions of listens on the internet, most recently culminating in “Plantasia” becoming the soundtrack to this year's Turbo Tax ad campaign… in some twisted way fulfilling the ‘taxes’ component of aforementioned dusty old quote.
Never one to pass up participating in a music and government paperwork crossover, I offer you my version of Plantasia’s title track, BUT WITH A TWIST! This version is mixed in sparkling SPATIAL AUDIO, optimized for immersive headphone listening. This is the opposite of “lo-fi” - I want an elaborate polyphonic universe to animate between your ears; to deliver positive contact to your auditory nerve. Fall is upon us - the freeze death of lush green plant life, but the garden in your mind is infinitely in bloom. Here’s the proof!
